A digital orthophoto is a raster image of an aerial photograph that through a process of differential rectification has been transformed to an accurate uniform scale and specified tolerance. Cherokee County, NC orthophotos consist of a tiff file format, one file for each of the 166 1"=400' tax maps which each cover an area of 10,000' X 10,000'. Pixel size represents 1' on the ground and color images are 286 megabytes per orthophoto tax map. No attributes available. Each tiff has a corresponding enhanced "TFW" file that contains geographic coordinate system information and data relating to aerial camera, aerial flight, map accuracy's etc. These orthos were produced from an aerial photography flight covering Cherokee County, North Carolina on April, 16th 2008.
<purpose>Used as a base layer for locating tax properties in the tax mapping process, E911 mapping and related base mapping efforts. The digital orthophoto can be used alone or as a basemap for overlaying vector line data. </purpose>

<srccontr>Geofiny Technologies, LLC Wilmington, NC flew aerial photography and produced digital orthophotos using digital photogrammetry production techniques. Aerial Photography is from a Spring flight of Cherokee County, NC on April 16th 2008. </srccontr>
</srcinfo>
<procstep>
<procdesc>Task 1: At strategic locations within and around the County existing survey monuments are referenced and used in the orthophoto production.
Task 2: Aerial color photography was flown at a photo scale of 1"=2400' covering Cherokee County, NC using a Leica RC30 aerial camera using Airborne Global Positioning System (AGPS) Task 3: Aerial color photography is processed and the negatives are scanned using a high resolution film scanner. Task 4: Fully Analytical Aerial Triangulation (FAAT) is performed to extrapolate additional image control points on the scanned aerial negatives using the survey monuments and AGPS aerial data. Task 5: Digital Elevation Data (DEM) is processed and edited in a softcopy photogrammetric workstation using the aerial photography. The DEM produced is used in the orthophoto rectification process. Task 6: Color orthophoto tiles at 1"=400' @ 10K' X 10K' are produced using orthophoto image processing software. The tiles are edited for any blemish, radiometry and geometric accuracy. Task 7: Final color orthophoto tiles at 1"=400' @ 10K' X 10K' are delivered in a .tiff format. Compressed imagery of each image tile and a countywide image set is also delivered. </procdesc>
